Intelligent Energy that Can Power your Smartphone for Seven Days on a Single Charge
The most sought after technology by the enthusiasts at Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, earlier this year, was more battery power for the smartphones. The British company, Intelligent Energy, may have found the answer for this collective call. The company on Monday announced that they have partnered with a smartphone manufacturer to introduce hydrogen cell fuel technology for the upcoming mobile devices. This means, the users will be able to use their device for a full week on a single charge, as reported by Fortune
An Intelligent Energy spokesperson said: "Once embedded, a fuel cell has the potential to keep a smartphone powered for more than a week without plugging into the wall socket. With smartphones using an ever increasing amount of power as they become more sophisticated, consumers are becoming increasingly frustrated with the current limitations of battery life. Embedding a fuel cell into the phone, means consumers can have off grid power for their phones when and where they want."
As per their agreement with the smartphone manufacturer, the British company will build a prototype of a smartphone with fuel cell technology integrated into the phone's system. They are also looking into licensing the technology. "We have been working with the OEM over recent weeks, demonstrating to them what our hydrogen fuel cell technology can achieve when embedded into a smartphone," said the company's acting managing director for its Consumer Electronic Division, Julian Hughes, reports Metro
Even though it appears that the technology is at its nascent stage, the professor of engineering, Elton Cairns, battery expert at the University of California, Berkeley says "companies like Samsung have been working in this area for at least 10 years." It looks like the technology offered by Intelligent Energy is at least 2 years away, says Tech Times
