Heaviest Teenager in the World Finally Walks After Dropping 700 Lbs.
Khaled Mohsen Al Shaeri weighed a staggering 1,345 lbs., the highest in the world, and hadn't left his bed for as long as three years. King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia ordered that this teenager be hospitalized and treated for excessive obesity. Between then and now, Shaeri has lost 700 pounds and now is in his early 20s. A new video posted of him on YouTube attracted 48,000 views that shows him walking for the first time in three years.
For his medical treatment, Shaeri had to be airlifted from his apartment and transported to a hospital in Riyadh. The entire procedure was funded by Abdullah. Thanks to his treatment and fitness routine, Shaeri has lost more than half of his weight and is on the track to lose more through his dedicated health program, as reported by Yahoo News
Head of Medical team, Aa'ed al-Qahtani, told Sayidaty Magazine in 2014 that Shaeri is regaining his muscle strength and his heart and lung function have shown considerable improvement. He is now able to move his feet and his body, he told the magazine, reports Daily Mail
A wheel chair, fully customized, was used to help make Shaeri become mobile and also assist in his physical therapy. He is still not able to move without help and needs a mechanized pulley to sit on a chair. Medical team members have told CNN that the young man feels spirited, that can be seen in his video where he is radiant and grinning as he walks.
The Shaeri's photos are being used by the magazine to launch an obesity awareness campaign where he is seen smiling and holding the victory sign. Dr. Abdeljabbar al-Yamani, the managing director of King Fahd Medical City, has christened him "the smiling man."
