Google Is Killing Picasa
This is the end of the Picasa software platform, PC Magazine reported. Google is going to focus more on Google Photos, after it shifts users from Picasa.
Picasa was a new application that Google acquired 12 years ago. At first it concentrated on image-organization, however, Google shifted from Picasa to its shiny, new Google Photos app.
"We know for many of you, a great deal of care has gone into managing your photos and videos using Picasa-including the hours you've invested and the most precious moments you've trusted us with. So we will take some time in order to do this right and provide you with options and easy ways to access your content," said Anil Sabharwal, head of Google Photos, according to Tech Crunch.
On March 16,2016 Picasa will shut down, yet users can continue to use it, though Google will not update it. Thus the app will stay on the borderline for some time.
Users who would like to transfer their data from Picasa to Google Photos can even use the same account information. The uploads will continue to be available through the new Google Photos platform.
