Three Cases Of Norovirus In Kansas Discovered In Buffalo Wild Wings Restaurant

A norovirus outbreak has been reported at a Buffalo Wild Wings restaurant branch in Overland Park in suburban Kansas City with three out of the 10 people being tested confirmed to have been infected with the food-borne virus.

However, no other similar outbreaks were reported in other restaurant outlets in other parts of Kansas City. Up to this time, local health officials are still trying to figure out the source of the virus.

"We have taken additional steps to conduct deep cleaning for norovirus at all Kansas City area restaurants," said Buffalo Wild Wings in a statement as quoted by the Reuters.

To avert a further spread of the food-borne illness, state health inspectors were recently deployed to investigate the outbreak. After completing the probe, findings revealed a number of food safety violations such as traces of dead flies in liquor bottles and non-washing of hands by employees after touching raw boneless chicken wings in a report by Fox WDAF.

The outbreak hit the news just days before the much-anticipated Super Bowl- one of the most festive nights for Buffalo Wild Wings. During the Super Bowl last year, the restaurant boasted to have sold 11 million boneless wings to food-goers.

According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) data, norovirus affects around 19 to 21 million Americans every year with 570 to 800 dying from the food-borne disease.

Meanwhile, traded shares of Buffalo Wild Wings (NASDAQ:BWLD) hit at $141.56 in midday trading on Monday. Recent earnings result show that the company posted $1.32 earnings a share- $0.16 below than Reuter's $1.48 estimate in a report by The Vista Voice.
