Hide Video’s Sensitive Content by Using YouTube’s Blurring Tool
A new feature, Custom Blurring Tool, was rolled out on Thursday by YouTube that allows the video creators to hide sensitive information from their videos. This tool that can now be used together with moving and still aspects in a video, is an addition to the face blur tool that was launched in 2012 by YouTube.
So far, this feature is only usable on desktop version of the website. The company says that it will allow the video editors to remove information such as credit card numbers, license plates, wardrobe malfunctions as well as other sensitive content from their videos, reports NDTV Gadgets
The video editors just need to choose the video that they want to edit. You can select the Custom Blurring tool inside the Enhancement tools available in YouTube. The user can draw a box on the aspect that they want to hide and the tool will automatically use the blur function on that part of the video. The blur will work even if the object moves in the video, according to TechOne
Creators can apply the blur box for a certain period of time, resize it and realign it as well. There is also a lock option that keeps the box still in one place when the object/subject is still. Creators have the option of saving the original video as well as the edited copy of it. This option can also be used to remove branding and logos from the videos, as reported by BidnessEtc.com
"While the use cases for this tool are vast, we built this feature with visual anonymity in mind. We wanted to give you a simple way to blur things like people, contact information, or financial data without having to remove and re-upload your content," said Amanda Conway, YouTube Privacy Lead, in a blog post.
