Steph Curry Still Out! How Long Can The Golden State Warriors Survive Without MVP?
The fear that most NBA teams are trying to avoid has bitten the Golden State Warriors who are trying to cap up their marvelous season by making it back-to-back victories. That fear is in reference to the fact that Steve Kerr has to find a way to make do with what he has right now without Steph Curry, at least temporarily.
Curry has been relegated to the sidelines following a knee injury he sustained in the team’s first round series with the Houston Rockets. The reigning NBA MVP finds himself limited to light shooting workouts as he tries to see how his right knee holds up. For now, the earliest time that Curry could return may be by game 3 of their series with the Portland Trail Blazers and based on their first duel, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green seem to have the bases covered.
Curry has been ruled out for game 2 when the Warriors meet the Blazers once again as Kerr and the Warriors closely monitor his health. Curry sprained his right MCL when he slipped on a wet spot before halftime of game 4 against the Rockets.
"It just depends how his week goes," Kerr said. "We'll just monitor him and see how it goes and hopefully get him back at some point. It's nice to have that long break between 2 and 3."
With Curry’s return uncertain, Thompson will have to showcase the same flare he did in game 1 as he tries to lock up Lillard from doing serious damage. "Klay is a tremendous two-way player, and that was really an amazing night for him just in terms of his all-around play. ... That’s a big burden to have to play both ways like that. He was awesome," said Thompson via USA Today.
Unless Lillard finds a way to allude the pesky defense expectedly thrown at him, other Blazers may need to step up big time. That includes C.J. McCollum, Maurice Harkless and Mason Plumlee who need to push themselves if the boys of head coach Terry Stotts want to move deeper into the NBA playoffs. The Warriors and the Blazers face off once again at the Oracle Arena at 10:30 p.m. ET. The game can be followed via live stream here.
