‘Smell-Free’ Socks Are A Reality Now
Yes, smell-resistant socks are a reality now. This means you can wear the same pair of socks every day without worrying about the smell. The entire credit goes to Steve and Jenny Whitley, a couple who run an angora goat farm in East Devon and a knitwear company, Corrymoor. The couple has accidentally invented socks that are smell-resistant and don't need washing.
In fact, the mohair socks, made from the fleece of angora kid goats, can be worn for more than a year without washing. Steve Whitley said that they originally marketed the socks for their comfortability and durability, it was only after customers told them about the smell-defying quality of the socks that they discovered the incredible properties. The customers reported that they could wear the socks for days without washing.
"Customers began telling us that they could wear them for days without them becoming stiff or smelly," said Whitley, reported The Guardian. "It was the men who were more forthcoming about this, but then women began writing in. One orchestra leader boasted that he'd had his for a year without washing them."
According to Steve, mohair fibres don't trap the usual bacteria that cause problems with foot hygiene. He claims that the socks can be worn "day after day, week after week" in extreme conditions and without any stench or discomfort. He himself, however, washes his socks wears after wearing it for a fortnight, reported Express.
Bear Grylls, Fiona Bruce, and Stephen Fry were among celebrities who have bought the Corrymoor Mohair brand socks and have promised to report back on how long their socks go without washing.
"We received a letter from a lady who had recently lost her husband," said Whitley. "He was so attached to his socks that he asked to be buried in them." The smell-free socks retail for £9 and £14 a pair.
