Alden Ehrenreich who became a prominent face after the Coen Brothers' 2016 movie Hail, Cesar! is set to take on one of the most iconic roles of all time as Han Solo in the Star Wars spin-off. According to Deadline, the 26-year-old Los Angeleno is still on the verge of closing out the deal but all bets are off that he is already a shoo-in to play the titular role in the Star Wars' stand-alone feature.

Prior to his best known work with the Coen Brothers, Ehrenreich first debuted in Francis Ford Coppola's independent movie Tetro. The role which Harrison Ford made famous in 1977 drew in almost 2,500 auditions in which directors Chris Miller and Phil Lord put through a sieve with Ehrenreich deemed as the worthy performer to handle the Solo's infamous blaster. Miller and Lord will also be penning the stand-alone movie.

Disney will continue to enlarge the new Star Wars' canon focusing on the Millennium Falcon's hotheaded salvager. The movie is likely to be entitled Han Solo: A Star Wars Story and will follow closely the narrative with the upcoming Rogue One: A Star Wars Story spin-off, which will be shown by the end of the year.

It has been rumored that Solo's well-known backstory in the Star Wars canon will be the springboard for the movie as it will take place prior to Solo and the grizzled Chewbacca joining forces with Luke Skywalker in Star Wars: A New Hope.

The Han Solo spinoff is set to hit theaters May 25, 2018.

For those short of being acquainted with Ehrenreich in the silver screen, Time made a listing of this unfamiliar thespian undertakings prior to landing the coveted role.

1. Ehrenreich bested such familiar face actors as the likes of Miles Teller (Whiplash), Taron Egerton (Kingsman), and AnselElgort (Fault in Our Stars).

2.  Director Steven Spielberg discovered Ehrenreich courtesy of a home video that he made during a bar mitzvah. Spielberg requested the young Ehrenreich to make an appearance in his studio as he hooked him up with an agent from Dreamworks.

3. He practically begged the Coen Brothers to let him play the role of a singing cowboy in the aforementioned Hail, Caesar!
