Google Nexus 2016 Release Date, Specs & Prices: HTC Planning To Launch Nexus Smartphones This Month?
Rumors are that Google might release its much awaited Nexus 2016 at the I/O Developers Conference, which starts on May 18. According to Latin Post, Google has collaborated with Taiwanese Android manufacturer HTC to develop its Nexus 2016 range of devices.
Popular leakster, Evan Blass, has revealed that HTC is developing two new Android N devices for Google, and the devices are internally named as S1 and M1, reported Android Police.
"HTC is building a pair of Android N devices for Google internally dubbed M1 and S1 #nexus," Bass tweeted. The rumored Nexus 2016 devices have been dubbed as HTC Sailfish and Marlin. While, the codename 'Marlin' was spotted in Gerrit, which is a Web-based code review tool used by Android Open Source Project (AOSP), there's still some confusion about the 'Sailfish' Nexus device codename.
Google has already named previous Nexus devices after aquatic life, the current 5X and 6P are Bullhead and Angler, respectively. The Nexus 6 was Shamu, while the Nexus 5 was Hammerhead. The upcoming Google Nexus devices are expected to launch along with Google's next OS version- Android N, becoming the world's first devices to come pre-loaded with the new Android iteration.
Although nothing much has been revealed about the upcoming Nexus 2016 devices, it is rumored that at least one of HTC's Nexus handsets could feature 3D Touch-like functionality. It is also rumored that one of the Nexus smartphones will be coming with a 5-inch display whereas the high-end version would be packed with a 5.5-inch display. Both the phones will run Android N out-of-the-box.
Recently, an upgraded Google Nexus 6P version was spotted on GFXBench benchmarking site. Reportedly, the new model will be powered by the current, top-tier Snapdragon 820 chipset, coupled with 4GB of RAM instead of 3GB of RAM on the Nexus 6P and the unreleased Google operating system, Android N and 'Marlin' motherboard, according to IBTimes.
We are expecting more information to surface online as the release date of the two handsets gets closer. Are you excited about Google Nexus 2016 release? Let us know in the comments below.
