If you are wondering how fertile you are and planning to get pregnant, then you should be good at doing a simple maths calculation. Conceiving a baby is all about timing and if you just get things done at the right time you are there at it.

It is necessary to make sure you are having sex when you are fertile. Fertility period is the time span where the conditions are appropriate for the egg and sperm to meet and eventually fertilize. It is calculated from your menstrual cycle and the fertility period is six days a month for woman that gets her periods every 28 days.

The first day of ovulation and five days prior to ovulation are the days for you to have sex with your partner to get pregnant right away. Process by which the ovaries release the egg is known as ovulation. For a simple calculation on your fertility period prepare a chart of the dates you got your periods at least couple of your last mensuration.

"Day 1 is the first day of your period. Since the length of your cycle can vary slightly from month to month, it's best to keep track for a few months. Once you have an average, subtract 18 days from the length of your shortest cycle. This is the first day you're likely to be fertile. Next, subtract 11 days from the length of your longest cycle. This is the last day you're likely to be fertile," according to Web MD.

Basal body temperature also indicates your fertility period. Though body temperature is high early in the morning as you wake up, the temperature rises a little just before ovulation. And it will remain higher till you get your periods. Making a note of temperature changes in your body every morning will guide you when it is appropriate to have intercourse.

"As your ovaries prepare to release an egg, your cervix makes more mucus. A few days before ovulation, it may be sticky and cloudy or whitish. Then, right before you ovulate, the mucus gets slippery, like egg whites. It may stretch across your fingers if you spread them apart. This stage usually lasts 3 or 4 days, which is when you're most likely to get pregnant," noted Web MD.
