Would it be possible that the highly-anticipated Microsoft Surface Phone will beat Samsung Galaxy Note 7, as what certain rumors have suggested?

Does its leaked patent have something to do with this speculation?

As the Redmond-based tech giant has not officially confirmed yet the arrival of their new device, many tech sites have already shared some theories on the things that consumers can probably look forward to.

According to Phone Arena, the Surface Pen is one feature of the rumored new Microsoft Surface Phone that will put it "up against the likes of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7, which includes Sammy's very own S Pen." 

The report further suggested that if the device were to be released today, it will reportedly capture a significant slice of the smartphone market especially that the unit from Samsung is under fire right now. It can be noted that the handset is being criticized because of its alleged "battery-related woes."

In the meantime, Tech Times shared that the leaked copy of the handset's patent application has hinted about the inclusion of a unique fingerprint scanner.

Tagged as "Fingerprint Detection with Transparent Cover," the patent application for the device, which is believed to be the Microsoft Surface Phone, was filed in February 2015 and published on Aug. 10, 2016.

"An electronic device includes a transparent cover and a light source disposed at an edge of the transparent cover," the patent read. "The light source is configured to inject light into the transparent cover."

"The transparent cover guides the light until interaction with a fingerprint ridge at the transparent cover," it added. "The electronic device further includes a filter disposed along the transparent cover. The filter is configured to selectively allow the light scattered by the fingerprint ridge to pass through the filter."
