PS4 Pro Vs Xbox One Scorpio: Which Console Will Emerge The Most Powerful?

By Shobha Vats | Update Date: Nov 01, 2016 06:39 AM EDT

The two leading companies in the video gaming world are soon releasing new members into the console families. Sony and Microsoft both are looking forward to releasing the 4K functionality in their upcoming version.

What to expect?

The companies have shown a tremendous revolution in the gaming world unveiling brand new consoles. The latest version, however, is not a new generation but the transition between the two. The 4K resolution offered is entirely different.

PS4 Pro uses a technology where the 2x2 pixel is extrapolated into a 4x equivalent. Hence the resolution jumps from 1080 p to 2160 p. Microsoft has come up with the native 4K resolution in the Xbox Scorpio.

Though the underlying technologies differ, there will hardly be any visible impact on the precision of the picture. The picture of PS4 will only have a slight softness as compared to the pinpoint precision of the Scorpio.

Technology Inside

With the release date, only days away the specifications of PS4 are readily available. It has an eight-core, x86-64 AMD "Jaguar" CPU, GDDR5 218 GB/sec memory and a 4.2 TFLOP (Trillion Floating point Operations per Second) CPU.

The Xbox Scorpio is scheduled to release in the next year. So little is known about the exact specifications. However, the GPU will have a staggering 6 TFLOPs with a same eight-core processor.

What is Exciting?

More the TFLOPs more are the computational power. So with 6 TFLOPs Xbox Scorpio surely has the edge over the PS4 making it worth a wait. Both have confirmed that they will not promote any console exclusive games, but  Xbox Scorpio turns out to be ideal for high-fidelity VR.

PS4, on the other hand, continues to play the same VR games with high frame rate and improved textures.

Prices

Sony has set PS4 at £349 while the price of Scorpio is likely to cost in the range of £450-£500. It should also be taken into account that by the time Scorpio releases the PS4 will see a considerable reduction in its cost.

The Deciding Factor

It is entirely true that PS4 is currently the high-end console and is considerably reasonable as compared to Scorpio.  On the other hand, the Xbox Scorpio has better features to offer with an astonishing VR capability.

It also features a 4K Blue Ray drive, absent in PS4. However,  it is not available until next year which can even delay up to 2017. However, if the resolution of the games is a priority, then Scorpio is worth a wait.
