Apple has got its fans hooked with the newest release of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. What's more surprising, is that news about the iPhone 8 are already surfacing, and the news come with a big surprise.

The next generation of Apple's flagship phones is likely to sport OLED displays, much like most phones today. These displays are speculated to be made by Sharp, which is a Japanese company renowned for making quality electronics like TV and stereo.

Tai Jeng-wu, President of Sharp, said that Apple would be switching to OLED for its future devices, and chances are that the future device is the iPhone 8. He also said that the iPhone would be evolving for the future. This is good news, as we already know iPhone 7S would be a refreshed update of the already popular iPhone 7.

The smartphone industry is always evolving and although the iPhone 7 has been highly rated, it cannot be called a revolutionary. Luckily, the future flagships aim to change just that.

Tai also said that Apple needs to walk down the path and transform itself, otherwise there wouldn't be any innovation. He added that it was a crisis but also an opportunity.

While it is true that the iPhones are popular, it also doesn't come as a surprise that Apple's golden days are over. Apple recently announced its first annual sales loss since 2001. This primarily stems from the fact that the iPhone 7 is lacking any innovative features. In order to grasp the market, Apple must find ways to keep the innovation moving forward.

OLED displays would impart higher contrast ratios and deeper blacks on the new iPhone, making them offer sharper colors. OLED screens are also very flexible and gorgeous to look at.

Sharp would be making these OLED screens back in Japan, but to keep the production costs minimum, Apple might want the screen to be made in the US.

Apple has a lot of upcoming challenges to get over. Only time will tell how the company fares.
