'Agents Of SHIELD' Season 4 Episode 6 titled 'The Good Samaritan' finally revealed Ghost Rider's backstory.

Here's a recap of what happened in 'The Good Samaritan.'

It opens with a flashback when Lucy and Joseph were lab partners in an experiment to build the fated quantum particle generator that turned them into spirits. When they're celebrating, Eli's curious about this breakthrough, and Lucy lets slip there's a book involved but Joseph shuts her up.

Gabe is worried Robbie hasn't come home for days. When Quake comes to fetch Gabe to take him to Robbie, Gabe tells him that he guesses Robbie is a secret agent to which Quake doesn't deny.

Jeffrey Mace gives Simmons a top secret mission with Nadeer, but with a Quinjet prepared for him, he reveals he's doing his own thing and that thing turns out to be boarding Coulson's jet and taking Quake and Robbie into custody. In the meantime, Coulson stalls Mace in a conversation about Star Wars, long enough before Quake, Ghost Rider and Gabe escape in the containment module where Robbie finally reveals the truth to his brother.

In the flashback, Robbie honks his horn at a truck which happens to contain the Fifth Street gang, who fling a Molotov cocktail at the car, then chase them down and commit a drive-by. That ;eft Gabe handicapped and Robbie dead. But the way Gabe remembered, 'a good samaritan' took him away, which Robbie tells him was actually 'the devil.'

Robbie tells Gabe that when he prayed to anyone to keep his brother safe, a voice offered him a second chance and that voice was devils. When he said yes, he gave him 'whatever was in him.' The good samaritan is revealed to be the original Marvel's motorcycle-riding Ghost Rider or so it suggests in appearance.

After Gabe realizes who his brother is, he gets scared and doesn't heed to Robbie, who says it is the thing inside him.that craves vengeance and kills people and not him.

Meanwhile, much to Coulson's disappointment, it is revealed that Mace knew they were hiding all along and that the containment module was missing. He eventually gets them back to the jet. Fitz tries to tell Mace they can track Eli but when Mace slides his request, the Ghost Rider gets outraged that they're not going after their uncle and starts beating Mace. He is almost killed if he'd not been saved by Gabe.Fitz tells the rest that they need Mace's help to track down the Darkhold, after which he can get punished.

Over at the power plant, Eli warns Lucy that he'd tried to warn her about the experiment stating that the devil wrote the Darkhold and he wants to destroy it. SHIELD arrive at the power plant, and Ghost Rider confronts Lucy. Lucy tells Ghost Rider that Eli is the one responsible before killing her. True to that, in a flashback, it is revealed that Eli locked everyone in the chamber turning them into ghosts. He even beat Mace unconscious in the hopes that he would give up the Darkhold but he never did. He wanted the book not to destroy, but to use it for himself.

Back in the present, May takes the Darkhold away from the power plant, and when Eli sees it missing, he snaps and puts everyone's lives in danger. Fitz and Mack try to find an EMP to shut down the activity of Eli, but they are too late as Eli comes out from the chamber with super powers.
