‘Sherlock’ Season 4 To Premiere In New Year: Everything We Know So Far
Fans of 'Sherlock' have a special reason to ring in the new year as Season 4 of the hit series is slated to premiere on January 1, 2017.
After 'Abominable Bride,' fans of 'Sherlock' will be treated to a dark and action-packed Season 4 going by the released trailer of the upcoming season. Showrunners Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss promised that Season 4 of 'Sherlock' will be darker than its predecessors but they also added that there will be a lot of jokes thrown in for good measure to balance the season overall.
BBC has officially confirmed that the premiere episode releasing in New Year is titled, "The Six Thatchers." Fans suggest that the premiere episode could be a play on Conan Doyle's short story, 'The Six Napoleons.' It has also been theorized by some that the Thatcher in question could be the former Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher and the said episode would feature a murder connected to the vandalizing of six Maggie Thatcher tributes.
In addition to the premiere episode, the title of the second episode also has been released which is called, "The Lying Detective." It is presumably a spin on 'The Dying Detective' by Doyle. In the episode, veteran actor Toby James is supposed to make an entry as Culverton Smith, serving as the main villain. Either Tom Hiddleston or Sam Heughan have also been allegedly cast as Sherrinford Holmes, Sherlock's smarter and evil brother, according to Parent Herald.
The third episode's title is yet to be announced.
Meanwhile, there was a lot of hue and cry about Season 4 being the last of the series going by an interview, in which Benedict Cumberbatch described the feel of the upcoming season. "It feels like the end of an era, to be honest." Cumberbatch said.
The actor later clarified that continuation of the series is still a possibility and that his words were taken out of context, much to Sherlock's fans relief.
