However, the Samsung Gear S3 rumored to be released on Nov. 18, 2016 is expected to turn the table during the holiday shopping season. The two strong rival, tech giants have come up with various improvements on their predecessor model smart watches to grab their maximum wallet share.

The 360 x 360 pixel resolution and 278 ppi pixel density Samsung Gear S3 will have a Super AMOLED display and 1.3-inch circular dial.

On the other hand, the Apple Watch 2 smartwatch sports a rectangular OLED retina display of 1.65-inch and 11.4 millimeters thickness. The Apple watch 2 comes in two sizes 42 mm and 38mm at pixel resolutions 390 x 312 pixels and 340 x 272 pixels respectively.

Hardware and features

It terms of design the Samsung Gear S3 sports a large stainless steel classy round dial with a rotating bezel. This allows users to control the smartwatch without touching the screen. Also, it is equipped with value added features like the gyroscope, accelerometer, heart-rate sensor, altimeter, built-in microphone and speaker and barometer

Apple Watch 2 also sports similar sensors that can monitor indoor and outdoor swimming, and the accelerometer, hear-rate sensor and gyroscope. Samsung Gear S3 is powered by 1GHZ Exynos 7270 dual-core processor and 768 MB RAM with an internal storage of 4GB. However, the absence of SD card slot is disappointing considering that 4GB could be too less nowadays. The Samsung Gear S3 works on Tizen OS 2.3 compatible on devices running Android version 4.4 and above.

On the other hand, Apple Watch 3 is equipped with a dual-core S2 chipset. The RAM of the watch is rumored to be at least 2GB though Apple is still secretive about it. The Apple Watch 2 powers with the watchOS 3

Battery

Samsung Gear S3 has a 380 mAh battery that is said to run up to 4 days on a single charge. While Apple's battery specifications are yet to be revealed.

Price and launch date

The Apple Watch Series 2 released on Sept. 16, 2016 is sold at two different prices at $399 for the 42mm and $369 for the 38mm version.

It is rumored that the Samsung Gear S3 will be sold at $499 given its advanced features into consideration.
