According to news recently revealed by Associated Press, The fruit distributor Splendid Products is recalling multiple batches of Daniella brand Mangoes due to a salmonella outbreak that has already sickened over 100 consumers, spanning 16 states.

Federal health officials are still investigating what caused the outbreak of 103 non-fatal cases of salmonella infections. U.S. and Canadian authorities are trying to identify which mango brands or sources may have caused the illnesses.

Indigenous to Mexico, Daniella Mangoes were sold to various vendors between july 12 and August 29, AP reports. The source adds that the sticker ID numbers that consumers need to look out for are 3114, 4051, 4311, 4584 and/or 4959.

Several newsletters have already been distributed by retailers regarding the tainted fruit. AP notes that the recall was voluntary due to "an abundance of caution," after they had consulted health officials on the issue.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention consumption of food contaminated with Salmonella can cause salmonellosis, one of the most common bacterial foodborne illnesses.

Salmonella infections can be life-threatening, particularly for  infants, the elderly, and persons with HIV infection or undergoing chemotherapy. The most common symptoms of salmonellosis are diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and fever within eight to 72 hours. Additional symptoms may include chills, headache, nausea, and vomiting that can last up to seven days. Consumers who believe they may have contracted a Salmonella infection should consult with their health care provider immediately, as warned by the Food and Drug Administartion.
