HBO Renews ‘Westworld’ For Season 2; Spoilers Suggest New Season Will Reveal More On Hosts

HBO has reportedly gone ahead and given the green signal for renewal of 'Westworld.' The exact premiere date has not been revealed but the new season is likely to air in 2018.

'Westworld' has been enjoying immense popularity and a huge fan following already in its first season. Yibada reported that with seven episodes aired of Season 1, HBO is giving 'Westworld' the boost of confidence by renewing the show for a Season 2 that not all scripted shows get during the first season. Reports indicate that 'Westworld' has been recording top ratings for HBO. The show, in fact, is said to be currently averaging a total of 11.7 million viewers across all platforms of HBO each week, surpassing the numbers recorded by 'Game Of Thrones' in its first year.

According to Entertainment Weekly, HBO programming president Casey Bloys revealed that Season 2 of 'Westworld' will most probably premiere only in two years. The news comes as a disappointment for avid fans of 'Westworld' but HBO disclosed that they have a good reason for taking two years to premiere the second season of the series.

"My suspicion is sometime in 2018 because of how big the world is and what goes into shooting it. So I don't have a date exactly- they're going to have to map it out and write the scripts-but my guess is sometime in '18," Bloys said.

Speaking further on Season 2 of 'Westworld,' Bloys shared that it is going to be as exciting, mysterious and fun as Season 1 of the series. He said the upcoming season won't rehash the same old storylines but will be 'completely original.'

'Westworld' co-showrunner Jonathan Nolan said that Season 2 will reveal a lot more about the hosts, including where they draw their power from and how they are built. In a separate EW interview, Nolan said while the hosts look like humans, they don't function the same way in that they don't need oxygen to survive. Killing them will also be very different from killing human beings.
