With 2016 nearly ending, the tech world promises a lot of flair and innovation in 2017. From AMOLED iPhone to Nokia making a comeback with its flagship Android-powered device, even Samsung is interested in evolving in a way no company has. Samsung plans to make the Galaxy X, which will come out as the truly flexible and foldable smartphone with a Super AMOLED display.

There have been numerous patents filed by Samsung, and that is the only way to know how the Galaxy X will turn up to be. Samsung Display had earlier filed patents of a design that looked like a flat makeup box with a clamshell-like design.

The shape Samsung registered, could be foldable into a rectangular smartphone, or could be folded closed into a smaller rectangle shape.

The clamshell design phone has a camera module on it, which will fold out to make the primary camera of the phone. The phone also folds out to show the secondary selfie camera along with speakers.

Interestingly, the design has a curved edge. Samsung has utilized the edge in its flagship phones like the S6 Edge and the S7 Edge, however, on the Galaxy X, the edge might serve a different purpose.

It is speculated that the edge can just be a notification ticker. It is also speculated that the edge would have icons on it, so that when the user touches it, the app corresponding to the icon would open when the user folds the phone open. There are also rumors surrounding a multi-user support on the edge, where the user can type his/her password to open his/her respective profiles.

Rumors are surrounding the display of the phone, which would be coming in 4K, with two camera modules on its back sourced directly from Samsung's in-house camera department. The 4K screen can be used as a VR-compliant tech, for the need for VR is increasing in phones.

The phone is likely to come in two variants, one with a Snapdragon 620 and another with a Snapdragon 820 or 830, and depending on the time of release, Samsung might go with the more powerful processor. Quick Charge 3.0 is likely to make a return on the new phone.

The phone is also speculated to have a minimum of 3GB RAM and a microSD card support. The phone would also have a non-removable battery.
