Battlefield 1 Update May Have Affected Texture Quality, Leading To Screen Flicker, Says Dev

By Sarah | Update Date: Nov 22, 2016 06:58 AM EST

DICE has accepted that the Battlefield 1 recent update patch is likely to have affected texture quality, while the developers are already working to resolve the screen flickering issue that is faced by users with particular GPU set-ups.

David Sirland, the game's producer suggested that certain data allocation tweaks could have been responsible for the degradation in the visual texture quality though no systematic rendering change has been made to the game in its latest title update patch 1.02 on PC, PS4 Pro and PS4.

In his tweet replies, to the user @CurleeToes David Sirland says, "true. I'll look into that change. We have been touching the allocation pools for maps - a normal fix for streaming issues" on November 20, 2016. He further tweeted, "this can affect texture quality for certain textures at certain times depending on what was streamed in since load."

Also, several users have been reporting that they were facing issues of screen flickering and blinking on the PC version of Battlefield 1, ever since they had installed its 1.02 update. Though, a separate issue, related to Battlefield 1.02 update, it is notable that evidences suggest that the problem is faced only by NVIDIA SLI and AMD Crossfire users, and also by those with multi-GPU set-ups.

On this context, EA's official support channels had already stated that they do not officially offer support SLI or Crossfire which is seen as greatly unhelpful. Andrew Burnes, NVIDIA's technical marketer has already acknowledged the issue, and expressed that they are looking to resolve the issue by working in collaboration with DICE.

Andrew Burnes posted in a forum on Geforce.com stating, "Flickering in Battlefield 1 was introduced by a game update. We are working with DICE to find a solution, and also investigating possible SLI profile changes."

A new patch expected soon!

Though the issues of visual quality have been frustrating the players for now, DICE is working proactively to resolve their discrepancies and it is expected that users will see another Battlefield 1 patch anytime sooner.
