Green Day Dishes Out Anti-Trump Lyrics At American Music Awards 2016
There is no doubt that Green Day is anti-Trump, as could be gleaned from its highly-charged performance during the recent American Music Awards.
Known for its ditties laced with social and political commentary, the punk-rock band sang its hit song "Bang Bang," but with modified lyrics to express its dissatisfaction over the business magnate turned politician's win.
"No Trump. No KKK. No fascist USA," Billy Joe Armstrong, the band's lead vocalist, chanted. Armstrong has had no qualms in voicing out his dislike for Mr. Trump. He has repeatedly taken to social media to declare his disappointment with the election results, reported USA Today.
However, the American billionaire has yet to give his thoughts on Green Day's anti-Trump performance during the American Music Awards. Neither has he commented on Gigi Hadid's impersonation of his wife Melania, although observers expect him to respond anytime soon. But Armstrong is unperturbed, as he has continued to lash out at President Trump on social media.
"It's hard to tell if we made any progress at all.. the dark side of our better angels have spoken.. they gloat.. they cheer.. I pity them," he added.
Green Day's anti-Trump performance at the American Music Awards is one of the growing number of high-profile occasions which Hollywood stars have used to blast Donald Trump since he was elected into office, according to Deadline Hollywood.
For instance, during a Broadway performance by Hamilton, Vice-President elect Mike Pence was booed by the audience, after which he was politely asked by the show's cast not to be a bigot.
On the other hand, Alec Baldwin returned to "Saturday Night Live" to portray the most powerful man in America, depicting the later as indecisive and flip-flopping in his decisions, according to NBC News. The president-elect, however, didn't take Baldwin's performance lightly, as he took to his social media account to say that it was "totally one-side, biased" and "had nothing funny at all."
Baldwin's "SNL" gig and Green Day's anti-Trump performance at the American Music Awards are seen as a reflection of the growing unrest in America today.
