Nearby Testing For 'Pokemon Go' Expands: Ditto Sighted And Caught
This month is pretty busy for Niantic labs as the holiday season is likely to begin and there is an opportunity for the company to get Pokémon Go up to snuff ASAP. The CPs are nudged a bit as the rebalancing update of Pokémon Go is quickly following.
According to Slash Gear Niantic has made an announcement that the nearby feature that the company had been testing since so long might be tested in more locations all over the world. The company has not made any official announcement of the addition of Ditto to the first generation Pokémon Go roster.
The nearby tracker feature was introduced by Niantic in August 2015. This was done to replace the company's largely broken footprint system. But this was limited to San Francisco area and that too in testing phase.
Expanding its coverage to other places even out of the US makes sense as the US citizens start packing for travel during the holiday season. The new areas of coverage may include-
- All states west of Mississippi river in the United States excluding Hawaii and Alaska
- Canada: The western half of Ontario, British Columbia, Manitoba, Alberta, and Saskatchewan
- All states and territories of Australia
Niantic also explains the working of the system. Starting from today, it shows up in nearby locations only if there is a Poke Stop nearby. If you are far away from such point, you have to rely on luck. You may also notice a slight change to the sighting feature.
Pokémon fans are excited because reports suggest that Ditto has been seen in the wild. In fact, all Rattatas, Pidgeys, and Magikarps saw on the map are Dittos in disguise. Their true nature is revealed once they are caught.
In the first 151 Pokémon's, Ditto is the last non-legendary Pokémon to be included in the game. It is still not clear how to identify Ditto without losing Poke balls. Ditto is only seen in the appearance of low-level Pokémon. But it retains the CP that you see in the imitated form.
