The competition between Amazon Echo and Google Home smart speakers is inevitable. Launched two years ago, Amazon Echo is definitely ahead of the pack in the voice-controlled assistants segment. But Google Home wouldn't let itself be left behind in the smart home market. The $64 question is, which speaker is better - Alexa or Google Assistant?

Google Home and Amazon Echo are both enabled by their activation phrases - 'OK Google' and 'Alexa', respectively. Users can also activate the personal assistants by asking for a song to be played. They are both developed to support music services such as Spotify and Pandorra. Google Play Music and Amazon Prime Music are their respective proprietary services.

According to CNET, the voice command 'Alexa' is much easier to use than 'OK Google'. Alexa's distinct advantage is seen when repeating the voice command. OK Google can be hard-headed sometimes. Alexa can also understand simple commands or a series of simple commands such as who, when, and what questions.

Google Home's big advantage is its oceanic database of knowledge housed by Google. The personal assistant can answer follow-up queries, says Fox News. Its ability to remember a previous question makes Google Home superior over Amazon Echo. The vast Google infrastructure backs the Home, which makes its smarter than Alexa.

Another selling point of Google Home is how natural it sounds. Amazon Echo is often criticized for its grating edge. When playing music on both devices, Google Home makes the sound present in the same room even if a song is playing unlike the Echo, which makes the music playing from another location.

For CNET, neither the two devices are outright awful, but the website would not recommend them if sound quality is a buying factor. CNET describes the Google Home as a decent TV speaker while it downgrades the Amazon Echo as the average one.
