"Grey's Anatomy" Season 13 is shaping up to be one of the best seasons of the show so far. With all the drama surrounding Alex's possible jail sentence, fans are left to wonder what will become of his friendship with Meredith Grey.

In a recent interview, series creator Shonda Rhimes revealed to TV Line how a Meredith-Alex love story could happen. Since the beginning of the show, Alex Karev (Justin Chambers) and Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) have been the best of friends.

The duo have been through everything together. From work-related problems, accidents and even deaths, these best friends have gotten through every hurdle by standing side-by-side.

Recently, Meredith learned that Alex could potentially go to jail after being charged with assault. The head nurse of Grey Sloan had reacted in a way that more than a friend would. This gave some Meredith and Alex shippers some hope.

However, in her interview, Rhimes was asked the one question that has been lingering on every fan's mind: why hasn't she made Meredith and Alex's relationship into something more than just best friends?

The award-winning show creator answered, "That's like asking me why I haven't had a certain kind of cheese." She continued, "The answer is 'Because I haven't had that kind of cheese." Interestingly enough, this means there really is nothing holding Rhimes back when it comes to pairing Grey and Karev together.

The scene between both characters on the show's mid-season finale only fueled the fans' desire to see Meredith and Alex together. "Grey's Anatomy" is still on a quick hiatus, but the fan reactions on this possible pair-up are still all over the internet.
