'Super Mario Run' Latest News & Update: Patch 1.02 Barely Saves Game From Freefall

Nintendo recently issued a new update for “Super Mario Run” in patch 1.02 for iOS users. Improvements are said to be included in the patch though these were not detailed.

Compared to other games, these changes to “Super Mario Run” are not expected to rack in impressive innovations. As most know, Nintendo previously said that no added content should be expected and that the current version is the complete package. The best “Super Mario Run” players can do is pay up $9.99 to unlock the other levels. Such has been with divided criticism, mostly calling the cost as too expensive compared to other games.

That said, critics believed that this would be something that would lead to the game’s downfall. Looking over the Apple App Store, it already dropped out of the top app charts last Dec. 24 and 25. Patch 1.02 for “Super Mario Run” may be nothing more than improvements to gameplay and stability, Attack of the Fan Boy reported. The lack of details makes these as safe assumptions with no added content likely included.

The case of “Super Mario Run” is different from what “Pokemon Go” has been doing. As most know, Niantic has been aggressive in keeping players busy. That includes a mix of events and added content in the form of Pokemon that gamers could capture out in the wild, BGR reported. “Super Mario Run” is free to play but only up to the third level. Players can try out “Toad Rally” and “Kingdom Builder” too but all that may not be enough to keep players hooked to the game.

Given those facts, it may not be surprising to see the game fall more in the coming months unless they consider some changes. Price-offs or even adding new game modes for “Super Mario Run” could be ideal for gamers to stay. If not, expect the number of active players to slowly exit – something that may lead to the game’s continued freefall off the Apple App Store charts.
