'Pokemon Snap' Release Date, News & Update: N64 Game Now Live on the Wii U Virtual Console

Here's something great for all you "Pokemon" fans out there. The N64 classic "Pokemon Snap" is now live on the Wii U Virtual Console. The first-person rail shooter and simulation video game from Nintendo was first released back in 1999 and was made available on the Wii U Virtual Console in Japan back in April last year and in Europe back in August.

The news comes via GameSpot, which reports that "Pokemon Snap" is now live on the Wii U Virtual Console for those in North America. For those who have "Pokemon Snap" on Wii, you can play it on the Wii U without having to purchase the game again, thanks to the backward-compatible Wii Menu applicaiton. Gamers should know that the Wii U version of the game can support the GamePad and Pro Controller.

According to VG24/7, "Pokemon Snap" will find gamers on a safari with Professor Oak, with whom they need to collect pictures of 63 different Pokemon. These creatures reside in the island which gamers need to explore, as they are well hidden are somewhat shy. Gamers need to coax them out of their hiding places to capture their photographs.

"Pokemon Snap" is directed by Yoichi Yamamoto, Koji Inokuchi, and Akira Takeshima, and is produced by Satoru Iwata, Shigeru Miyamoto, and Kenji Miki. Back in 2007, it was re-released for the Wii as a Virtual Console title. Now, the N64 classic is live on the Wii U Virtual Console.
