The good news is that speculations of an LG G6 are one and true. The bad news is that folks eager to get one will have to have to wait-and-see when the next flagship will come out.

The existence of an LG G6 was confirmed no less by chief technology officer Skott Ahn which would be coming out in the “very near future”, the Wall Street Journal reported. The first thing that comes to mind is the Mobile World Congress 2017 which happens this February. However, there seems to be a monkey wrench thrown into the mix.

An LG company spokesperson hinted that the LG G6 would have a different announce date which could follow the same tactic employed by Samsung. As most know, Samsung holds a separate event (“Unpacked”) for its latest Galaxy S flagship so LG may be taking a page out of their rival’s playlist. Either way, the important thing is that an LG G6 will be out in 2017 and available in regions such as North America, Europe, and South Korea. The LG G6 will try to pick up from the LG G5, the predecessor, which underwhelmed.

The LG G6 will reportedly veer away from the usual modular design, something that added to the woes of the LG G5. Focus for the upcoming flagship has been on usability and aesthetics, possibly including the glass back which has cropped up over at the grapevine, Phone Arena reported.

Among the potential specs of the LG G6 from around the web right now include an OLED display screen, front-facing stereo speakers, and improved wide-angled cameras. It will reportedly also sport a fingerprint and iris scanner at the back and front respectively plus an improved battery for longer use. Given the teased separate event, LG could launch the LG G6 as early as February before sitting in with the rest of the new devices at the Mobile World Congress in March.
