'Star Wars Episode 9' Tackles Carrie Fisher Death, Princess Leia Possible Recasting Debated By Fans
The recent death of Carrie Fisher has truly been devastating news for family, friends and fans, but the tragedy could also have a shocking effect on "Star Wars Episode 9". Disney and Lucasfilm will need to work around the actress' absence to continue with the sequel's possible storyline involving Princess Leia.
It has recently been confirmed that Carrie Fisher had completed filming for "Star Wars Episode 8" so people will still see Leia later this year. Unfortunately, "Star Wars Episode 9" has not yet started production and there are reports stating that the General is supposed to play a larger role in the Colin Trevorrow film.
According to io9, the director is still set for a meeting with Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy to discuss what can be done about the "Star Wars Episode 9" storyline involving Princess Leia. There are speculations that the sequel will deal with Carrie Fisher's death by either giving Leia an off-screen death or using CGI to recreate the actress' character onscreen. Neither option has been received well by fans.
Some believe that there is a third option, which suggests that Princess Leia could be recast in "Star Wars Episode 9". One fan even pointed out that this was done for the "Harry Potter" films following the death of original Dumbledore Richard Harris. In any case, the decision on how to deal with Carrie Fisher's death will still depend on Colin Trevorrow, Kathleen Kennedy and the producers of the "Star Wars" sequel.
Carrie Fisher's Princess Leia is still expected to play a larger role in both "Episode 8" and "Star Wars Episode 9". There are speculations that Leia is set for a reunion with her brother Luke Skywalker as well as a confrontation with her son Kylo Ren. Hopefully, the producers will find the best solution to both honor Fisher and her character in the next two "Star Wars" movies.
