‘The Night Manager’ Teams Collaborate For Another Adaptation Of John Le Carre’s ‘The Spy Who Came In From The Cold’
AMC and BBC are going to team up once again to do another John Le Carre classic on television. Unfortunately, this won't be for "The Night Manager" Season 2, but for the 85-year-old author's 1963 novel "The Spy who Came in from the Cold."
The television adaptation of "The Spy who Came in from the Cold" would be another miniseries just like "The Night Manager" as announced at the Television Critics Association's winter press tour on Saturday. It would be handled by the production company The Ink Factory and would be internationally distributed by Paramount Television. Oscar winner and "Slumdog Millionaire" writer Simon Beaufoy will also pen the upcoming show.
Character 7 -- that also executive produced "The Night Manager" -- would also collaborate with The Ink Factory to produce "The Spy who Came in from the Cold," according to Hollywood Reporter. Moreover, le Carre revealed that he is now excited for the new television adaptation of his novel. He, too, has "great confidence" with the teaming up of BBC and AMC. The American cable channel and SundanceTV president Joel Stillerman, on the other hand, described the novelist as "one of the master storytellers of our time."
He also feels the privilege to feature "The Spy who Came in from the Cold" on their channel. Furthermore, The Ink Factory Co-CEO Simon Cornwell, too, depicted le Carre's book as the "best Cold War spy story ever written." He even explained that it has a completely fascinating narrative that made it one of the greatest novels of the 20th century. With that being said, they are now looking forward to letting 21st century viewers experience it, The Independent reported.
"The Spy who Came in from the Cold" is popularly known as le Carre's another famous character MI6 spymaster George Smiley. In fact, it was already adapted to the big screen in 1965 led by Richard Burton. Just like "The Night Manager," television viewers in the U.S. can also witness the upcoming BBC series via AMC. However, the network has yet to announce its cast, air date, and other details.
