Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy: A Promising New Way To Treat Diseases

As technological advancements in the field of medicine are becoming more advanced by the minute, so are therapies geared toward longevity and optimal health. One of the emerging treatments used today is hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) which shows promise in treating diseases such as chronic wounds, infection, Alzheimer's disease and infertility.

The popularity of this new therapy has impacted the sales of related equipment. In fact, according to the Future Market Insights (FMI), the global hyperbaric oxygen therapy devices market is projected to register a healthy CAGR of 7.2 percent during the forecast period. The increasing incidence rate of acute and chronic wounds is expected to further increase the demand for wound healing application of these devices.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) In Healing Wounds

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy has now been widely used in healing wounds. Chronic wounds pose serious threats to individuals with diabetes. In fact, every 30 seconds, someone loses their leg because of the complications of diabetes mainly because of poor circulation and nerve damage on their feet.

These predispose them to infection, ulcers and sores. If they are not treated properly, it may lead to amputation. An estimated 6.5 million Americans suffer from chronic wounds.

"Chronic wounds are a very big problem," Dr. Shannon Mitchel, Medical Director of Wound Care for Cornerstone Hospital, said as reported by WSPA News.

"It is difficult to treat wounds properly. Wounds that are open tend to get infected and that's one reason why it requires a physician overseeing the effort," he added.

The good news is, Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy shows promise in treating wounds. It stimulates the atmospheric pressing of being 33 feet below sea level in a 100-percent oxygen environment. When the patients would inhale the oxygen, it boosts the body's natural healing process.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) On Other Diseases

Medical News Today reports that HBOT brings more oxygen in the bloodstream and can enhance healing for people with a number of conditions.

The therapy has been shown to benefit people suffering from a wide spectrum of conditions like embolism, infections, air bubbles in the blood vessels, and wounds that do not respond to other treatments. Recently, it has been used as an alternative therapy for various conditions like infertility and Alzheimer's disease.

HBOT helps provide more oxygen to the body's tissues so they could work efficiently. Additional oxygen can enhance the healing of damaged tissue, boost tissue function and fight infection.
