Owning pets reaps immense health benefits, including lowered hypertension, stress relief and reduction in anxiety. Research has proven that owners of pet dogs invariably take to the outdoors when they walk the dog and this doubles up as exercise for them. Dogs are known to be loyal and earlier reports have shown that they can help their owners in distress.

According to a recent report, a pet dog rescued her owner and saved his life after he slipped and suffered a fracture on his neck late at night. Michigan-based Bob passed out due to the accident and could have died of hypothermia but for the lifesaving act by his pet, reveals a report by McLaren Northern Michigan hospital where he received treatment.

Bob had broken his neck on impact and was paralysed in his extremeties. Bob's screams for help went unheard.

Kelsey was by Bob's side and continued to bark, reported The Blaze. Recounting his experience in a release Bob said, "I was screaming for help but my nearest neighbour is about a quarter mile away and it was 10:30 p.m., but my Kelsey came. By morning my voice was gone and I couldn't yell for help, but Kelsey didn't stop barking."

Bob was in a state of paralysis for the next 20 hours in the snow. Bob was rushed to the McLaren Northern Michigan Emergency Department after his neighbour heard  a strange howl form the dog the following evening, reveals Pennlive

At the emergency room, doctors found that his core body temperature was below 70 degrees. He needed immediate remedy for atrial fibrillation.

Hospital authorities said that Bob was found to have suffered a C4-C5 disc herniation in the neck region. This had compressed the spinal cord and resulted in paralysis in the legs. Bob had to undergo emergency surgery.

The surgery revived his limbs and he was able to move them.  According to the report from the hospital, Bob is recovering well. The Doctors have said that with physical therapy Bob will regain strength and function in his limbs.

Counting his blessings, Bob said, "I am so thankful for my two heroes. Kelsey kept me warm, alert, and never stopped barking for help. Dr.Colen saved my life and ability to move. They are truly heroes and I will be eternally grateful."
