‘Once Upon a Time’ Season 7 On The Verge Of Cancellation; ABC Still Waiting For EPs Pitch To Continue
It looks like the renewal of "Once Upon a Time" Season 7 is on the verge of cancellation after the show's rating on its current season is evidently slipping. However, the fairy tale television series' DVR and digital viewing are still garnering good numbers, but they are now planning to give the show all the credits and end it in all modesty.
ABC entertainment president Channing Dungey told Deadline at the recent Television Critics Association that the show's creators Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz already talked to her about their ideas for "Once Upon a Time" Season 7. The 47-year-old executive admitted that there are some potential concepts, thus she gave them feedback and are set to have a discussion once again in the coming weeks. She also added that the two showrunners have the perfect engagement with their fans and "wanting to end the story in the right way."
After the three's scheduled meeting, Dungey revealed that it will be the time they will have to make a decision if there will be "Once Upon a Time" Season 7. In spite of the show's future after the current chapter, she explained that Kitsis and Horowitz think that they have to put an end to the show's story. But, there will be a next piece coming, even though they are not sure yet what it is and how will it work.
In another interview, Dungey told Entertainment Weekly that Horowitz and Kitsis are eyeing to make "Once Upon a Time" Season 7 "a springboard in a new direction from a narrative standpoint." Basically, it means the show will definitely be back with the original cast but will be reorganized to make its story bigger. Nevertheless, it might be unbelievable if the television series will still anchor the same characters if it will undergo a reset.
"Whenever there's change, there's always transition [sic]," Dungey added. She further explained that it is very hard to give details about "Once Upon a Time" Season 7 as nothing is final yet. She, too, is still waiting for Horowitz and Kitsis' pitch, so they could finalize things and confirm if the show will be canceled or will push through.
