'The X-Files' Season 11 Latest News & Update: Fox Still Bringing Mulder And Scully Back Despite Gillian Anderson Skepticism
The future of "The X-Files" Season 11 might seem uncertain at the moment, but that doesn't mean that Fox isn't hoping for the best. The network continues to promise that Fox Mulder and Dana Scully will return despite Gillian Anderson's insistence that the series is over.
Fans are still hoping for "The X-Files" Season 11. After all, the previous season concluded with a jarring cliffhanger that had everyone wondering if Mulder survived and whether Scully was abducted by the gigantic spaceship. Fox is undoubtedly eager to continue with the series and are expecting to air a longer season in the future, even if Gillian Anderson insists otherwise.
The latest update on "The X-Files" Season 11 comes from Fox CEO Gary Newman, who told Variety that the revival will "get there." However, he also admitted that he isn't sure "what the timing is likely to be," leading to speculations that Mulder and Scully will have to return sometime in 2018. That is, if Gillian Anderson decides to be on board.
Gillian Anderson hasn't exactly been quiet about her skepticism that "The X-Files" Season 11 will even happen. The former "Hannibal" star has previously told Reuters that the series "is finished." In addition to that, Anderson somehow dismissed the idea of another season when a fan asked if she and David Duchovny are looking forward to directing future "The X-Files" episodes.
Fox might need to go out of their way to convince Gillian Anderson to come back as Dana Scully in "The X-Files" Season 11, but the network remains optimistic. According to TVLine, Fox president David Madden insists that "conversations are going on" and stated that the network will "announce something shortly." In the meantime, fans can catch Anderson as entertainment deity Media in the upcoming Starz series "American Gods", which will air later in the year.
