Six Cups of Coffee a Day Reduces Risk of Womb and Prostate Cancer: Study
A new study suggests that women who drink four to six cups of coffee a day are less likely to suffer from womb cancer. However, in men, those who take similar quantities cut down their risk of suffer prostate cancer.
According to the study that involved 117,000 volunteers, the effect was seen regardless of whether the coffee they consumed was regular or decaffeinated coffee, and this suggests that the effects are not linked to caffeine, Mail Online reports.
While many a people restrict their coffee intake for the fear of it spiking their blood pressure, recent researches have revealed quite a few health benefits of the drink for regular drinkers including lowered risk of Type-2 diabetes, colon cancer and Parkinson's disease.
The current study by researchers from Harvard University observed and analyzed the coffee drinking habits of 67,000 women whose health had been tracked for more than 20 years.
The findings of the study revealed that those who drank four or more cups a day had a 25 percent reduced risk of endometrial cancer, when compared to those who drank less than one cup of coffee a day.
Also, similar effects were seen for decaffeinated coffee, while no effect was seen in tea drinkers.
Researchers, also looked at the coffee drinking habits of 50,000 men for a duration of 20 years and found that drinking 6 or more cups of coffee cut down prostate cancer risk in them by 18 percent and reduced the risk of developing the most deadly form of it by 60 percent.
The possible reason for the findings could be that coffee may have a beneficial effect on insulin levels. There have been studies previously which have linked insulin levels with tumour growth, and coffee may help to limit this effect, the report says.
However, researchers warn coffee drinkers against adding extra sugar and cream to each cup because the extra calories could negate the benefits from the coffee.
