'Logan' Release Date, News & Update: How Upcoming Hugh Jackman Film Deviates From Previous 'X-Men' Movies
Comic book fans and moviegoers are already counting down the days to March 2, when the upcoming Hugh Jackman film "Logan" hits theaters. As the actor's last effort as the Wolverine, the film will follow Logan as he strives to live a quiet life with an ailing Professor X.
Without the help of any of the other "X-Men," Logan and Professor X are lead their lives in solitude, until a young girl with mutant powers arrive. As seen in the two trailers released by 20th Century Fox, the film deviates form the previous "X-Men" movies in tone and in treatment. Recently, Hugh Jackman spoke with Digital Spy to shed light on what "Logan" is all about and how he and director James Mangold made his final bow as the Wolverine something to be truly proud of.
The "Logan" star explaid how the upcoming Hugh Jackman film deviates from the previous "X-Men" movies, saying that from the beginning, they already set it apart from the "X-Men" and "Wolverine" timelines. Jackman even said that the film takes place in a "slightly different universe" and in "actually a different paradigm."
But how does this make for his final film as the Wolverine? Jackman said that when they began creating "Logan" the movie, he was given the creative freedom to create a film that he wanted to create. He then worked with Mangold to build a story that was so tonally different, it may not even take place in the same universe that the "X-Men" movies took place in. Nonetheless, Jackman says that it all makes sense when the film comes out on March 2.
Meanwhile, Collider reports that even the title "Logan" is one of the many ways the upcoming Hugh Jackman film deviates from the previous "X-Men" movies. They wanted the film to be about the man, not about his superpowers or his being a superhero. It also doesn't have the prefix "X-Men" on it, as the previous trilogies had. "Logan" hits theaters this March 2 and stars Patrick Stewart and Dafne Keen, alongside Hugh Jackman.
