"The Originals" season 4 has a lot of things to tackle after the so many unresolved issues from the last season. One of the things that need some resolution is the romance between Elijah and Hayley after the five-year time jump from the previous season. While many fans are rooting for Hayley and Elijah tandem, it could be complicated if they rekindle their romance when "The Originals" season 4 returns on air. In finding the cure for the Mikaelson brothers, Entertainment Weekly suggested that there might be some hope between Elijah and Hayley. In an interview, showrunner Julie Plec sounded positive that there could be a chance between Elijah and Hayley after the former wakes up from his coma.

However, there are pressing things that he may need to attend to aside from Hayley. In fact, showrunner Julie Plec pointed out that the five-year time jump in "The Originals" season 4 without any of the Mikaelson siblings can do a lot of changes in New Orleans. For one, it would a bit difficult to go back to a relationship that he's been away from for five years on top of having a captive brother and a crumbling dynasty.

The five-year time jump will definitely put a wedge between Elijah and Hayley. That being said, it could only be complicated for Hayley and Elijah to rekindle the fire right away. However, fans are still hopeful that Hayley should strike up a romantic relationship with Elijah in "The Originals" season 4. The fact that the upcoming season will see Hayley doing her utmost best to find a cure is enough to make other fans believe that she wants to see Elijah again.
