NBA Trade 2017 Latest News & Update: Jeremy Lin Bust Will Force Brooklyn Nets To Clean House

By Vaughn Dweebs | Update Date: Jan 24, 2017 11:56 PM EST

The Brooklyn Nets are already in a deep hole with a cellar-dwelling 9-35 mark and the woes just got stacked up all the more. Jeremy Lin, previously believed to be on the comeback trail, suffered yet another setback when the American-Asian star re-aggravated his hamstring injury during the course of his rehab.

Jeremy Lin will need an extra three to five weeks to recover meaning the Nets will have to rely on the less-stellar manner of using other players to man the point. The Nets chances of snagging at least the last post season bus have dwindled and now critics believe that general manager Sean Marks best look ahead. The NBA trade deadline is on Feb. 23 and Marks could end up cleaning house starting with Brook Lopez, Forbes reported.

With no Jeremy Lin to combine with Brook Lopez, it may be best to see if the center would draw interest from other ballclubs. He could be dangled to three teams in need of a big man, namely the Boston Celtics, Cleveland Cavaliers and the Portland Trail Blazers. The problem though is the hefty price tag he carries. Lopez is guaranteed around $21 million this season and $22.6 million for the 2017-18 wars according to Spotrac.com.

With most teams working on a stiff budget, the all-star center may be too stiff to get. If not by Feb. 23, the Net could opt to hold off any trade deals until the Summer. Brooklyn is looking for ways to get some young blood from the 2017 NBA draft and that can only happen if they dangle the players of interest to other teams. Aside from Lopez, other potential players that could entice teams to trade up for picks include Sean Kilpatrick or Bojan Bogdanovic.

With his salary, player/s may need to be involved in facilitating a trade plus some picks. Kilpatrick and Bogdanovic, on the other hand, would be sufficient to get some draft selections though it remains if Marks can pull out one to secure a slot in the first round of the 2017 NBA draft.
