In any sport, seeing your romp come to an end will draw out emotions even from the best. That includes Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger who hinted at retirement following their defeat to the New England Patriots for the NFL AFC championship. After an incredible run, being brought back to reality expectedly allowed frustration to set in.

The 35-year-old Roethlisberger mentioned that he would be re-evaluating his next move. He would talk with his agent and family which seemed to indicate that he was thinking of walking away from the sport. The initial plans hinted at untimely retirement for the veteran quarterback, though the latest from CBS reported that all this was done impulsively and out of frustration.

Ben Roethlisberger has two years remaining on his contract and the consensus is that “Big Ben” will play those remaining years out. At 35, he still has a couple of years ahead of him. Critics believe that despite the halt to their magical run in the 2016-17 NFL season, the outlook is bright for the Steelers.

Unlike other teams on the prowl for key players which will likely come from the 2017 NFL Draft, the Steelers have a lineup that can reach greater heights. Their deep run this season may have come up short but speaks well on what Roethlisberger and the rest of the Steelers can look forward to. As far as Roethlisberger’s future plans, head coach Mike Tomlin wasn’t that alarmed, as stated by another report from CBS Pittsburgh.

Tomlin singles out the point at which Roethlisberger is in. It may be nostalgia in a sense and admits that the Steelers do not control what “Big Ben” plans for the future. All of this is with the understanding that Roethlisberger is serious about his retirement swipe – which apparently is not. It may take time to get over the AFC Championship loss but the next season could render a different Pittsburgh Steelers team.
