NBA Trade 2017 Latest News & Updates: Boston Celtics Targeting Nikola Vucevic

By Vaughn Dweebs | Update Date: Jan 29, 2017 11:47 AM EST

The Boston Celtics begged off from Carmelo Anthony but it looks like more of it was because Danny Ainge was looking for a player who can do more than score. The Celtics are reportedly discussing a potential NBA trade with the Orlando Magic involving Nikola Vucevic, a double-double machine that could help out Boston’s 2016-17 NBA campaign.

Nikola Vucevic is a 7-footer who is averaging 13.8 points and 9.8 rebounds per game to go with 2.8 assists per CSN New England. The Celtics are looking to beef up their defense and rebounding departments and Vucevic looms as a logical solution. Aside from the things that the Montenegrin cager can do, he also has a team-friendly contract that could give Ainge plenty of flexibility. He signed a $53 million extension good for four years, making him a plausible investment for the next two seasons.

Hearing Vucevic’s name in the NBA trade grapevine isn’t really new. He has been mentioned before but nothing has materialized. Also, it will be interesting if the Magic will bite. Orlando currently sports an 18-30 win-loss record, occupying 13th spot in the Eastern Conference. If they have any plans to make the playoffs, they need to string up wins to get into the magic 8.

A look at the Orlando Magic roster doesn’t seem to show a team that would help them make the postseason wars, the Orlando Magic Daily reported. Vucevic is one the best players for head coach Frank Vogel though he Vucevic has been struggling with his system. Could this be one of the reasons why the Celtics have approached Orlando?

Should the NBA trade push through, the Magic will want young and promising players. That could include Amir Johnson, Demetrius Jackson, and Guerschon Yabusele, players who the Orland could use. The NBA trade deadline is on Feb. 23 so it will be interesting if the Celtics and the Magic can get something done.
