It is already 2017 but "The Winds of Winter" release date has yet to be announced. However, that doesn't mean that the world will be completely devoid of new tales from George R.R. Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire". Although it is still unsure whether the sixth novel of his beloved book series will actually get published this year, Martin has offered some interesting details about the new short story that will be released in October.

The revelation that one of George R.R. Martin's new short stories will be included in a collection titled "Book of Swords" certainly had a few fans seething at the idea of the author working on something other than "The Winds of Winter". However, Martin has just revealed some new details about the tale, which will also be set in the world of "A Song of Ice and Fire". But is it connected to the author's highly anticipated "TWOW"?

George R.R. Martin shared some awesome information on his LiveJournal, revealing that the short story that will be included in "Book of Swords" is titled "The Sons of the Dragon". The tale follows Daenerys Targaryen's ancestors, the brothers Aenys I and Maegor the Cruel, who once ruled over Westeros after Aegon the Conqueror. Since the short story takes place so far in the past, it would have little or no connection to "The Winds of Winter" at all.

But is it a new short story that George R.R. Martin has worked on instead of adding pages to "The Winds of Winter"? According to io9, "The Sons of the Dragon" is actually an outtake from "The World of Ice and Fire" that Martin worked on YEARS ago, so there is no need to worry about the author being distracted.

There is no word yet of "The Winds of Winter" release date although George R.R. Martin has stated that it could be published this year. In the meantime, "Game of Thrones" fans can expect to read about the legendary Targaryen brothers in "The Sons of the Dragon". "Book of Swords" will be available starting October 10.
