'Vikings' Season 5 Set For Major Time Leap As Alfred Prepares To Take The Throne, Battle Ivar The Boneless [VIDEO]

There is little doubt that the fifth season of "Vikings" belongs to Ivar the Boneless, who towered over the previous season as the Great Heathen Army won the bloody battle in "The Reckoning". However, the crippled son of Ragnar Lothbrok will need to face a powerful new opponent as "Vikings" Season 5 is set to take another major time leap.

King Ecbert's adopted grandson Alfred could appear all grown up and ready to drive the Northmen away when the series returns to History. Alfred appeared as a baby, then a young boy in the fourth season of "Vikings". The bastard of Athelstan and Judith even played chess with Ivar the Boneless, easily defeating Ragnar Lothbrok's son in the game.

But was this a sign of what Alfred will do to Ivar in "Vikings" Season 5? The series has already cast an older actor to play Alfred in the upcoming season, and it looks like the future monarch will be crowned much sooner in the show. "Sing Street" star Ferdia Walsh-Peelo hass been sharing some possible spoilers in his Instagram account.

The actor, who has long been speculated to portray a teenaged Alfred in "Vikings" Season 5, has posted images of himself in bloody battle makeup. This certainly confirms that Athelstan's son will soon face Ivar the Boneless in battle, and it appears that the teenager might even ascend to the throne. Walsh-Peelo's most recent post shows him in a kingly attire.

Ferdia Walsh-Peelo will be joined by Darren Cahill, who has been confirmed to portray Alfred's half-brother Athelred. However, the "Vikings" Season 5 time leap could happen in the second half of the upcoming season. In the meantime, Ivar is still expected to fight Jonathan Rhys-Meyers' Heahmund when the show returns on History later this year.
