NFL 2017 Latest News & Update: Carson Palmer Ready and Raring To Return with Arizona Cardinals
The Arizona Cardinals will have one less thing to worry about with reports that veteran quarterback Carson Palmer will return to play his 15th NFL season. It seems that Larry Fitzgerald’s previous announcement had something to do with the decision of the 37-year-old player to return next season.
The 2016 NFL season wasn’t particularly kind for Palmer who got his share of sacks. He got sacked a total of 40 times, the fifth-most in the NFL. Witness to the beating that the veteran had was coach Bruce Arians who said Palmer got the hell beat out of him, NFL.com reported. Hence, it wasn’t surprising to see Palmer take some time off and assess himself on whether he could go on. As it turns out, the short break was all he needed to get himself recomposed.
With Palmer back, he is assured of getting his guaranteed $15.5 million salary for 2017. Also, it eases the worry for the Cardinals for now considering they don’t have an immediate replacement for the quarterback position. They are expected to add a rookie from the 2017 NFL Draft, someone that Palmer will likely take under his wing.
Despite the beating he took, Carson Palmer showed flashes of brilliance during the homestretch of the 2016-17 NFL season. He showed his arm was still effective with the problem usually the pocket often crumbling around him. Moving forward, Palmer said in a statement to AZCardinals.com that he is ready to buckle down to work with his ‘phenomenal’ team.
He admitted that he wanted some time off to weigh himself both mentally and physically. Palmer has proven that he can bounce back from adversity and the rejuvenated dish should be a sign of good things to come for Arizona Cardinals and NFL fans. Will the new energy be enough to push the Cardinals to come up with a better showing in 2017?
