PetSmart announced a voluntary recall on Thursday of its Great Choice Adult Dog Food due to metal contamination that could pose a choking hazard for pets. The US Food and Drug Administration have issued the recall Friday evening.

PetSmart, a pet supplies and services chain, has ordered a recall as a precautionary measure. Earlier this month, a similar recall was issued by Evanger's Dog & Cat Food. Evanger's recalled specific lots of its Hunk of Beef product due to potential contamination with pentobarbital.

PetSmart has sold the recalled product on PetSmart.com, Pet360.com, PetFoodDirect.com and in PetSmart retail stores across the country. The products was sold between Oct. 10, 2016, and Feb. 7, 2017.

The product is called "Great Choice" Adult Dog Food with Chicken & Rice Classic Ground in 13.2 oz. cans that have a Best By date of 8/5/19. The Best By date can be found at the bottom of the can, with the lot code is 1759338 and UPC is 7-3725726116-7.

According to International Business Times the company announced the recall after it received a notification on consumer complaints from the manufacturer. PetSmart had not received any complaints from customers themselves at the time they issued the recall. No other Grreat Choice products are affected by the issue.

FDA said the company is not aware of any reported cases of illness or injury related to the recalled product as of now. As a precaution, they have advised consumers to stop feeding the products to their dogs. Consumers may approach local PetSmart stores and bring remaining cans of the recalled product for a full refund or an exchange.
