The British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons recently revealed the number of cosmetic operations dropped by 40 percent ast year. It had reached a record breaking height in 2015. After a decade of consistent growth, the number of men and women who had surgical procedure went below 31,000 with 2016's totals 5 percent less than those in 2007.

According to Sky News, non-surgical treatment such as facial injectables, have remained on a steady rise. Brexit also may have been blamed to have impacted the cosmetic surgery industry.

Former BAAPS president Rajiv Grover said the public are less likely to spend on significant alterations and have become conservative. Most patients now opt for less costly non-surgical procedures such as chemical peels and microdermabrasion. Less have been found to commit to more permanent changes.

According to Express & Star, in 2016, a total of 30,750 procedures were carried out on men and women that showed a fall of 39.9 percent from 2015. A 39.1 percent fall for women and 47.8 percent fall for men.

Breast augmentaion was the top surgical procedure for women that accounted for 7,732 in total, decreasing by 20 percent from last year. Rhinoplasty was the top procedure for men that accounted for 529 in total, decreasing by 35 percent from 2015.

Browlifts was the biggest fall of 71 percent for both men and women. Abdominoplasty or tummy tuck however went up by 47 percent with 172 procedure carried out for men.

BAAPS president and consultant plastic surgeon Simon Withey said the 2016 BAAPS audit demonstrates that patients are realizing that cosmetic surgery is not a quick fix but a serious commitment. More patients are carefully evaluating the risks and benefits involved in the surgery before getting the procedure done.

Withey added "If it means people are taking their time to be truly sure a procedure is the right investment for them, then this can only be a good thing." It may show a decline in the numbers of procedures in 2016 but this also means that more patients are cautious and careful when it comes to cosmetice surgeries.
