NBA Trade 2017 Latest News & Update: Cleveland Cavaliers Have Three Los Angeles Lakers Guards To Choose From

The Los Angeles Lakers have Lou Williams as one of their better players, but all that could change soon. There are reports that the Lakers are actively shopping the 30-year-old guard, a great catch for teams beefing up their rosters for the NBA playoffs.

Lou Williams is having an excellent year with averages of 18.5 points in 57 games for the Lakers. Aside from that, he also holds averages of 3.1 assists and 2.9 rebounds. He has done most of that coming off the bench. That said, Williams could be a good fit to the Cleveland Cavaliers, who have been on the prowl for a backup guard, UPI.com reported.

The Cavs did hold midseason tryouts with ex-Laker Jordan Farmar standing out. Ironically, Cleveland was reportedly interested in Jose Calderon too, though nothing has materialized. After the Lakers loss to the Sacramento Kings, Williams sounded as if he was aware he was moving soon. The Lakers continue to fall with a 19-39 mark, more or less hinting that they will miss the NBA postseason wars again.

Hence, it makes sense for the Lakers to clean shop with Williams. Another Laker reported being considered for trade is Nick Young, Hoops Hype suggested. For the Cavs, Williams is a tempting choice to consider. He fits in perfectly and seems to thrive coming off the bench. While the move seems plausible, there is no hint (publicly) of the Cavs and Lakers talking about a potential trade.

The NBA trade deadline is on Feb. 23 so anything can happen in the coming days. The NBA takes a breather this weekend when it stages its annual NBA All-Star weekend in New Orleans. As in previous years, it wouldn’t come as a surprise if the Lakers suddenly announce a trade and part with Lou Williams, who is ready to play for any team that needs him.
