Apple Latest News & Update: iPhone SE Production Plans Hope To Facilitate Market Penetration In India

Apple has found it difficult to expand to India, a growing market that it has been trying to penetrate. All that could be done soon with plans to start production of the iPhone SE in collaboration with Wistron. The Cupertino company hopes to achieve a final output of 300,000 to 400,000 units and take it from there.

Wistron will aid in the iPhone SE assembly in Karnataka, a plant that is believed to be specifically made for the initiative. It remains to be seen if this move will help ease the burden Apple has had to deal with, particularly in the area of trying to lower duty rates and get some tax breaks, Apple Insider reported.

Apple has long battled for special government consideration, but has stumbled so far. The Cupertino company has relied on authorized resellers as it continues to work on satisfying the government requirements to put up a retail and distribution network in India. It is believed that Apple will eventually expand in India after establishing the “made in India” plan involving the iPhone SE.

A lot apparently hinges on the kick-off plans and that includes expanding up to the Bengaluru plant that will possibly handle other iPhone models. Related to that, there is also word that Apple will be moving its Chinese workforce to India because of rising labor costs, Reuters reported. Should Apple be successful, the next thing most would want to know is whether Apple is indeed capable of lowering prices for its iPhone handsets.

The measures could help, but the price drop extent is still up in the air. Discounts are normally offered on select seasons or when the Cupertino company is on the verge of releasing new models. The iPhone SE has been around for quite some time now so it may be possible. But how about other iPhone models such as the iPhone 7/ 7 Plus which have been known to hold high market value in other continents?
