Fans have been hanging on to any available updates on the third season of "Rick and Morty" for good reason. The animated series has been expected to return in late 2016 but there was no sign of the highly anticipated show on Adult Swim last December. So when exactly is the "Rick and Morty" Season 3 air date? Co-creator Dan Harmon has no clue, but he can offer a hilarious update to give fans an idea on when their favorite series will return.

Back in July, Dan Harmon had confidently declared that the "Rick and Morty" Season 3 air date would be set by the end of the year. The co-creator even announced that the upcoming season will have 14 new episodes. It certainly sounds like Harmon has already completed what needs to be done with the third season, so why hasn't the animated series premiered on Adult Swim yet?

Dan Harmon has an explanation for the "Rick and Morty" Season 3 delay. During a taping of his Harmontown podcast, the co-creator was once again asked about the third season air date. Harmon was undoubtedly prepared for the question as he admitted that the writing is already completed. However, he also explained that the episodes are currently being drawn and that could take time.

There is a huge possibility that the new episodes for the third season are still being illustrated, especially since the teasers only show a rough draft of certain scenes. In the meantime, Dan Harmon appears to be done with questions about the "Rick and Morty" Season 3 air date. The co-creator has already stated that the release date will first get announced by Adult Swim, so it would be best to wait for the network to provide the update. Hopefully, the premiere of the animated series will be confirmed by March.
