Wisconsin's Rage Room Open For Smashing To Relieve Stress
It is the first of its kind, as a new business in Wisconsin allows customers to come in and smash things for fun. The Rage Room in Oshkosh is owned by Justin Marcellis, who believes it can be a new form of therapy for anger management and a way to let loose.
The Rage Room is one of only a handful of similar businesses in the United States. May it be dishes or desktop computers "Something about breaking things, it releases something in your adrenals," Marcellis said.
According to KCBD News, the major misconception is that people come to The Rage Room because they are angry. But Marcellis said that vast majority of their customers are there on date nights. Or" they're here in groups of women, and they're here to have a lot of fun," he said.
Katarina Struck, partner and employee of the Rage Room said it all started when she showed Justin a video of a similar concept in Canada. Part of the reason is when she was at her sister's new house, where she got the opportunity to released stress, "just go crazy and smash the house," she said.
WAOW reported that the new business follows a similar concept launched in Toronto. Visitors pay a fee for a 15-minute smashing session. Protective gears are provided for safety and then customers get to choose both their weapons and inanimate victims.
Inspired by the stress relieving concept, Marcellis converted his old warehouse at 520 W. 15th Ave. into a space for wrecking rummage. They currently charge $30 for a 15-minute smashing session that allows you to destroy 10 plates or glasses and a larger electronic item. Customers may also bring an item to smash for another $10 according to The Northwestern.
Marcellis said he made a deal to accept outgoing plates and glasses from local thrift stores and electronics from another disposal company. Shards of the destroyed items are then shipped to a recycling company once they've been completely pulverized.
