A flawed part in the NBA rulebook could see Australian Andrew Bogut return to the Golden State Warriors. Bogut was dealt with the Philadelphia 76ers in exchange for Nerlen Noel by the Dallas Mavericks at the NBA trade deadline. The Sixers reportedly don’t plan to keep him.

The Sixers plan to buy out Andrew Bogut soon and this will allow the Aussie center to join other teams. Ordinarily, that would not include Bogut’s former team - the Golden State Warriors. But a loophole could allow him to reunite with Steve Kerr and the gang, according to the Vertical, and reportedly, Fox Sports.

Per Bobby Marks, the fact that the Mavs were the last team to trade him makes him eligible to return to the team that dealt him off earlier this season in a trade that involved Harrison Barnes in making room for Kevin Durant. Teams could re-sign traded players after a year, but the Mavs trade to the Sixers caused opened up a flaw.

A return to the Warriors would be a big boost to Kerr’s defensive woes, though there is no official word on whether this would happen. Golden State has been quiet thus far, seemingly having enough assets for the season. So even with a flawed ruling, there is no assurance just yet that the Australian will rejoin the same team where he won an NBA title two years ago. If not the Warriors, there are other teams who could try and sign up Andrew Bogut.

The teams who could come into play include the Boston Celtics, Houston Rockets, Sacramento Kings, San Antonio Spurs or even the Cleveland Cavaliers. Most of the teams expressed interest even before the Feb. 23 deadline. With Bogut now a free agent, interested teams don’t have to worry about his huge contract and offer him a reasonable package at least for the rest of the season, Bleacher Report noted.
