University of Adelaide, located in South Australia, is the third oldest university in the country. The university is associated with 104 Rhodes scholars and five Nobel laureates and was also a member of Sandstone universities as well as the Group of Eight. Its main campus is on North Terrace where the Royal Adelaide Hospital and Adelaide University Medical and Dental Schools are located.
And according to ABC News Australia, a newly-built health and medical sciences research facility was opened in Adelaide. The facility is worth around $246 million and has 14 storeys. It is the latest addition to North Terrace medical precinct, which is also home to SAHMR one and soon-to-open New Royale Adelaide Hospital.
The level two of the newly-built university building will serve as a place for the students to simulate operations using computerized mannequins. It will also serves as the location for students who wants to study surgical procedures. And inside the birthing site, there is a life-sized mother and a baby lay in waiting.
Dr. Simon Pattern said that the new building will be used to prepare their students, nurses and theater doctors for clinical practice. He also said that they can simulate any of the diseases that might face a newborn. Because in doing these, students will not only gain knowledge on how to deliver a baby but also the things that they could do if things go wrong.
Dr. Pattern stated that lecturers would be able to experiment through a wide range of simulated emergencies with the students and will provide real life-like results. He said that instead of the students coming into wards and figuring out how they could talk to a parent and how to react, they will get that experience from using the technology. The robotic mother will also be utilized in multiple training situations.
The new building will shelter around 600 researchers and 1,600 students. It also has three lecture theaters and four floors of laboratories. The construction of this building will combine Adelaide Nursing School, School of Public Health campuses, Adelaide Medical School and Adelaide Dental School in one site.
